Is the office available for emergency care?
Yes, the office has a doctor on call for patients of record 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week for all patients of record.  Emergency patients are seen and treated as soon as possible for a!! patients of record.

Will I be referred to another office for treatment?
Yes, Dr. Clary feels that in order to have the best dental care that a team approach is necessary. Dentistry requires knowledge and skills that one person can not possibly provide. You will be referred to other dental specialists to provide you with most appropriate state of the art treatment.

Why are dental X-rays necessary?
A full-mouth series of X-rays is the first step in a thorough dental examination. Your dentist take this series of X-rays so he can find:
  • Cavities between the teeth 
  • Worn-out filling and crowns 
  • Calculus (Tartar) on the roots
  • Receding bone levels and abscesses 

A lead apron is draped over you to protect the rest of your body while X-rays are being taken.  We use a high-speed film, so the amount of radiation exposure is very low X-rays give your dentist vital information that cannot be obtain from any other source.

What is cosmetic dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry is a broad title, which described many new and exciting techniques that can fill gaps between teeth and restore discolored, misshapened or broken teeth. These procedures include cosmetic bonding, tooth whitening be bleaching, porcelain veneers, and cosmetic reshaping. Of course orthodontic tooth movement and replacement of gum tissue are also a solution to specific problems.

What are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are custom-crafted, fingernail-thin porcelain shells that are bonded to natural teeth. Because of their subtle color and near transparency, porcelain veneers can make a dramatic and very natural-looking improvement to your smile.

What is an implant?
Implants are often used to replace missing teeth. They are alternatives to removable partial dentures, fixed bridges, and full dentures. They can he used to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth. An implant is a titanium “bionic” tooth that replaces a missing “natural” root.

Do you need to replace missing teeth?
Teeth need each other for support. When one tooth is lost, the biting force changes on the teeth next to the space, and they begin to shift. When a tooth no longer has anything to chew against, it begins to extrude out of the socket. You can eventually end up losing the tooth.
 

Immediately after a tooth is lost When a tooth is not replaced, the remaining teeth can drift out of postition.

Does Dr. Clary place implants?
NO!!!! Dr. Clary believes in a team approach to replace missing teeth with implants. A surgical dental specialists (oral surgeon or periodontist) is the most qualified to place implants with the most predictable long term results. Dr. Clary restores the implants after healing is complete.

How often should my teeth be cleaned?
Patients should he seen for recare a minimum of twice a year or up to four times a year. The frequencies of cleanings are done to allow you to maintain optimal periodontal health.

What is a prosthodontist?
A prosthodontist is a dentist who has had two or more years of advanced training to provide simple as well as complex dental care. He or she is a specialist extensively trained in the complicated techniques and treatment of:
  • Fixed Crowns and Bridges
  • Completed and Partial Dentures
  • Cosmetic Dentistry
  • Dental Implants
  • Maxillofacial Prostheses
  • Temporomandibluar Dysfunction
  • Total Mouth Rehabilitation

Do adults need fluoride?
Adults can benefit from fluoride to prevent decay to natural tooth surfaces. Patients with multiple restorations, exposed root surfaces. or with dry mouth are especially at risk for increased decay. A prescription toothpaste with a high fluoride content is most helpful.

How is the necessary treatment plan achieved?
The ideal treatment plan is established after obtaining as much information as possible. This includes radiographs, a comprehensive exam, consultations with other dental specialists. photographs. and diagnostic casts (models). We want to replace what is missing and preserve what remains to restore esthetics, phonetics. function and comfort. All alternative treatment options will also be presented.

What is home bleaching and how safe is this procedure?
Home bleaching is a popular dental procedure used to whiten teeth. Recent clinical studies of carbamide and hydrogen peroxide tooth bleaching reported varying degrees of tooth sensitivity, which persisted for up to 24 to 48 hours after the cessation of bleaching treatment. The tray is designed to avoid soft tissue contact. No significant soft tissue problems have been identified when the home Bleaching technique with 1 0% carbamide peroxide is used.  The dentist will monitor the entire process of home-use bleaching to ensure its effectiveness and safety.  Whiteness with the ADA Seal of Acceptance have proven to be safe and effective.

Prosthodontists are the ADA recognized specialist in tooth restoration and replacement.

Why should you see a prosthodontist?

As our population ages, the role of the prosthodontist becomes critical in maintaining a high standard of dental care. Prosthodontists are trained to do the type of procedures that our aging population needs to provide optimum function and esthetics fur their dental condition.

A Prosthodontist provides care for patients who are missing teeth or have significant damage to their existing teeth. The Prosthodontist can aid in the rehabilitation of a complete dentition or merely in the replacement of one or two teeth. With the advent of dental implants as a viable means of replacing teeth, the prosthodontist’s role has expanded substantially. The prosthodontist can supply the control and expertise that is necessary to make an implant supported restoration look and function properly.

What are crowns and why are they used?
A crown is a restoration that covers, or caps, a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size. Its purpose is to strengthen or improve the apearance of a tooth. A crown is placed for a
number of reasons:

  • to support a large filling when there isn't enough tooth remaining
  • to attach a bridge
  • to protect weak teeth from fracturing
